Introduction To Whitewater Paddling

Dates: September 16-19, 2026 (4 full days=fun optional day)

 

Learn foundational skills for Whitewater Kayak or Canoe. Develop correct habits from the start and improve quickly with less chance of injury.

 

Instructors will take you through a step-by-step learning progression leading to comfort with paddling up to class 2+ rivers. Includes river play and rolling instruction. See the ACA Whitewater Kayaking Course Outline​ for details on course curriculum. (Canoeists please contact us for curriculum.)

Most of the river portion of this course will take place on the Wolf River, a National Scenic Waterway, camping at a local National Forest campground. You can meet us there or take the van with us from Cornucopia.

Schedule

  • Arrive September 15th in the evening at our base camp near Langlade, WI.

  • September 16-18 we'll paddle the Wolf and other nearby rivers depending upon best water levels.

  • September 19th (Saturday) we'll culminate our course with a day at the Wausau Whitewater course. You have the option to stay Sunday. Free camping. Very fun!

Tuition: $545 includes lodging in a shared bunk/lodge while at the Wolf River, tents for Wausau camping, food from breakfast 1 through lunch 4, all permits, transportation at the river, and 1 day entry to the Wausau Whitewater course.

Additional: If you need a kayak package it's an additional $85 for the duration of the course. Includes wetsuit, paddle, sprayskirt, PFD.

Whitewater Rendezvous

Dates & Times: April 23-26.  Thursday 9am -> Sunday 3pm

Location: Camp Gardener Dam, White Lake WI.

This is a part social, part instructional event for kayakers or canoeists with previous experience paddling on class 2. (Can control your boat in current)

 

You'll connect with other paddlers and take your skills to the next level through sharing and coaching from experienced instructors and other paddlers.

We'll have our choice of area rivers including the wild and scenic Wolf River near Langlade WI, as well as the Peshtigo, Oconto, and other local waterways depending upon water levels and interests. Each day we'll split into groups based on goals, comfort, and safety.

Lodging will be at Scout Camp Gardner Dam, with heated bunkhouse and camping options for those who prefer sleeping outside. Kitchens & showers provided. Having this heated space allows us to hang out, warm up and dry our gear! 

Registration: $395 includes food, kitchen, group lodging in bunk rooms, coaching. You must have a way to move your equipment, but some shuttles will be available depending upon paddling venue.
