Women's Campfire, Knit & XC Ski Weekend

Updated: 2 days ago

Join Us for a Winter Adventure: January 16-18, 2026

Womens ski and knit weekend

Are you ready for a rustic winter weekend on the Bayfield Peninsula? Join us for an unforgettable experience filled with beginner-friendly cross-country skiing, cozy nights in a rustic dry cabin heated by a wood stove, and exploring beautiful winter hiking trails. If you're feeling adventurous, there's an option to snowshoe as well! In the evenings, we’ll gather around the outdoor campfire to share stories, or we can hunker down inside to work on our knitting and crochet projects by the warm wood stove.

Itinerary

Friday Evening: Arrival and Settle In

We’ll meet between 5 PM and 6 PM at Lost Creek Adventures in Cornucopia, Wisconsin. From there, we’ll hop into a van for a scenic ride up to our cabin in the woods. Once we arrive, we’ll set up our sleepover-style “camp” for the night, laying out sleeping bags and pads on the cabin floor. Don’t worry—the cabin is heated by a wood stove, so it’ll be nice and toasty with all of us in it!

Dinner will be a group effort, cooked over the stove. Afterward, we can either work on our knitting projects inside or enjoy an outdoor campfire while gazing at the stars. No prior knitting or crochet experience is required, but please bring your own yarn and needles to get started. I’ll be there to provide basic instruction!

Saturday: Skiing and Sunset Views

We’ll kick off Saturday with breakfast at 8 AM. By 9:30 AM, we’ll head to Mount Ashwabay for a morning of cross-country skiing. Don’t worry if you’re a beginner; this is perfect for you! We’ll have pre-packed sandwiches for lunch, and then we’ll return to camp to relax.

In the afternoon, we’ll venture to Lake Superior to catch a breathtaking sunset over the icy waters (weather permitting). The evening will be filled with campfires, dinner, and more knitting and crocheting.

Sunday: Final Hike and Departure

On Sunday, we’ll enjoy breakfast at 8 AM before packing up our camp. We’ll embark on one last group hike, with the destination depending on the conditions. We’ll wrap up our adventure and disband between noon and 1 PM.

Packing List: Essential Gear for Your Adventure

To ensure you have a fantastic time, here’s a packing list to help you prepare:

  • Winter Boots: Perfect for snow and hiking.

  • Wool Socks: Bring at least three pairs. If they get wet, you’ll want a change!

  • Base Layers: Choose synthetic or wool, plus an active jacket for skiing.

  • Sleeping Gear: A sleeping bag and pad are essential. Contact andy.lostcreekprograms@gmail.com for loaners, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Don’t forget your pillow!

  • Spare Blanket: Great for sitting in the snow.

  • Outdoor Chair: For relaxing around the fire (we’ll have a few extras).

  • Knitting/Crochet Supplies: Bring your needles/hooks and yarn for your projects!

  • Headlamp: Essential for nighttime activities.

  • Snacks: Bring your favorite treats! Meals are provided, but if you love Nerds gummy clusters while hiking, pack those!

  • Winter Layers: A winter coat and multiple layers are crucial.

  • Base Layer: Start with something thin and moisture-wicking.

  • Insulating Layer: Think polar fleece or your favorite puffy jacket.

  • Shell Layer: This protects you from wind, snow, and sleet. A good rain jacket works too.

  • Winter Hat: Or the wool to make one!

  • Gloves and Mittens: Gloves are handy for dexterity, but mittens keep you warmer.

  • Water Bottle: Stay hydrated!

  • Optional: Hand, feet, or body warmers.

Lodging Note

For this rustic trip, we’ll all be sleeping on the floor of a one-room dry cabin, sleepover style. There’s an outhouse nearby, but no running water or flushing toilets. Bring your sleeping bag and pad, and we’ll cozy up while enjoying the stars outside, all while having a warm space to sleep and create.
